Lieutenant General Sir John Kiszely to officially open new home of Loughborough University’s Typhoon Squadron
Lieutenant General Sir John Kiszely KCB MC, the Director of the MOD Defence Academy, will officially open Loughborough University’s Keith Green building on May 8 2006.
The building will be home to the University’s Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme’s (DTUS) Typhoon Squadron.
The University was selected to take part in the DTUS in 2004. The scheme has been set up by the MOD to support sponsored students studying for engineering and science degrees, all of whom are committed to become officers in one of the services (Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Civil Service). Loughborough is one of only five universities in the UK to be a part of the DTUS, with each having its own squadron for students to join.
Whilst at the campus Lieutenant General Sir John Kiszely will formally open the Keith Green Building before meeting Typhoon Squadron staff and students, and University representatives. He will also visit Loughborough’s Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering and Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.
Wing Commander Keith Pearce, who is based at Loughborough University and is responsible for its DTUS students, said: “The Typhoon Squadron is delighted that Lieutenant General Sir John Kiszely has kindly agreed to officially open our new building. It will be a great opportunity for us to show him our base, here at the University.”

The students are mentored throughout their academic study to help them develop the skills and attributes they will need to fulfil their long-term commitment to the services. In 2006 Loughborough celebrates the 40th anniversary of its University Charter, awarded on 19 April 1966 in recognition of the excellence achieved by Loughborough College of Advanced Technology and its predecessor Colleges. Loughborough University of Technology was renamed Loughborough University in 1996.
