National Student Survey places Loughborough University in top five
Loughborough University has again been rated as one of the best universities in the UK for student satisfaction, according to the results of the 2007 National Student Survey.
The survey, published today (12 September), provides a ringing endorsement of the high quality learning experience the University provides for its students, placing Loughborough fourth in the UK.
89% of the University’s students say that overall they are satisfied with the quality of their course.
In the individual subject areas, five of Loughborough’s subjects were ranked top in the UK – Civil Engineering; Chemical, Process and Energy Engineering; Materials and Minerals Technology; Others in Technology; and Information Services.
In total, 23 out of 29 – almost 80% – of Loughborough’s subject areas were ranked in the top ten for overall satisfaction.
As part of the survey students are asked to rate their satisfaction in seven areas of their degree programme – teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, personal development, and overall satisfaction. Across these areas, Loughborough gained an average satisfaction rating of 83%.
Professor Shirley Pearce, Vice Chancellor of Loughborough University, said: “We are delighted that Loughborough has been rated so highly in this year’s National Student Survey and that we remain one of the students’ favourite HEIs. It is particularly pleasing to see that so many of our subjects are ranked in the top ten in the UK.
“These results, together with our excellent applications figures
and our 2006 Times Higher Education Supplement award for Best Student
Experience, are confirmation of Loughborough’s continuing popularity.”
Undergraduate applications to study full-time at Loughborough rose by
11.2%, more than double the national average, in 2007.
Loughborough is also ranked in the top 15 of UK universities in national league tables.
